How To Strengthen Nails And Reduce Breakage, Ripping and Tearing


It has been said that the health of the body can be seen in the nails. If there is a deficiency or problem in the body many times those issues will manifest themselves in the nails first. For this reason, and many others, it is important to keep your nails as health as possible. If you want to have strong healthy nails you will need to learn how to strengthen nails to accomplish this.

Steps to Take to Strengthen Your Nails

  • Maintain a Good Nail Length – when talking about how to strengthen nails it is very important to discuss the proper length of the nails first. If you allow your nails to get too long they can become thin and weak and easily chip, break or rip. Alternately you don’t want to have your nails too short either. If you cut your nails too short they may become infected or get painful hangnails. There should always be at least some white at the tip of the nails. Never cut them down to the skin.

Many people know the benefits of moisturizing their skin but neglect their nails but they need to be moisturized too. Some things that can be used include olive oil, coconut oil, tea tree oil, aloe or a commercial nail moisturizing product.
  • Use a Quality Nail Strengthener – If your nails are very damaged and weak you will benefit from using a specially made nail strengthening product. These products help protect the nails and make them stronger and less likely to rip or tear. Most can be used weekly to help make nails stronger and healthier.
  • Protect Your Nails – if you regularly do dishes or use harsh cleaning products your nails may suffer as a result. Protect your nails by wearing gloves when you clean or do the dishes. The next time you do the dishes try applying some quality lotion to your hands and nails first and then put on the gloves. The warm water will heat up the lotion and when you are done our hands will feel soft and supple.
